What Is MOXI Laser?

The MOXI Laser is a mild, non-surgical, fractional skin resurfacing procedure intended to improve texture, promote the generation of collagen, and address uneven pigmentation.
Often referred to as a “prejuvenation” therapy, it targets sun damage and early symptoms of aging with little recovery time, making it a popular year-round choice for all skin types.
Non-Ablative & Fractional: It delivers energy to the skin by using a non-ablative fractionated 1927 nm wavelength.
Micro-coagulation: The body’s natural healing reaction and cellular turnover are triggered by the laser’s microscopic micro-injuries in the tissue.
What Does MOXI Actually Treat?

MOXI is a gentle yet effective laser with minimal downtime. Given the gentle nature of the laser, a series of treatments spaced 4-6 weeks may be required to visibly transform the skin.
Sun Damage and Pigmentation
It can treat superficial pigmentation from sun damage and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Dull, Uneven Skin Tone
That flat, tired look that skincare products aren’t quite touching. MOXI accelerates cell turnover and brings fresher skin to the surface.
Mild Texture Irregularities
Early roughness, enlarged pores, skin that doesn’t feel as smooth as it used to. The collagen stimulation MOXI triggers improve texture progressively over several weeks.
Fine Lines
Softens fine lines via collagen stimulation..
Melasma and Hormonal Pigmentation
MOXI can help here, but this requires careful, physician-guided management. Particularly for women with melanin-rich skin, where melasma tends to sit deeper.
Preventative Skin Health
This is one of MOXI’s strongest use cases. Fractional ablative laser treatments such as MOXI have been shown to reduce the risk of certain skin cancers. Incorporating this into your skin health plan is one of the best steps you can take for your skin health and rejuvenation.
Is MOXI Safe for All Skin Tones?
MOXI Healing Journey — Melanin-Rich Skin (Fitzpatrick IV–VI)

Yes! MOXI is safe for all skin tones. It is our go-to laser treatment option in melanated skin.
The majority of laser issues in women with melanin-rich skin are caused by surface heat damage. In darker skin tones, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, dark marks that persist long after the treatment itself has ended, can occur as a healing response when a laser destroys or severely damages the outer layer of skin. For deeper skin tones, some ablative lasers have a higher risk profile because of this.
MOXI’s non-ablative approach changes that equation. Because the surface stays largely intact and the energy is delivered in fractionated columns rather than across the full skin, the thermal disruption is significantly more controlled. That’s what makes it more accessible across the Fitzpatrick scale. These include skin types for which more aggressive lasers aren’t appropriate.
That said, “safer design” doesn’t mean “risk-free regardless of who performs it.” Energy settings, treatment depth, and provider expertise still matter. A physician who understands how melanin-rich skin responds to laser energy is the difference between a great outcome and a complication. This is non-negotiable.
At The Derm Project, we incorporate important post-treatment steps to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
What to Expect? Before, During, and After

Before The Treatment
Everything starts with a consultation and a VISIA skin analysis. Your skin tone, current condition, and specific concerns determine the settings used. The treatment is customized to meet your needs.
Before the treatment, try to:
- Stop retinoids and active exfoliants several days before.
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for at least two weeks prior.
- Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water
- Use the recommended hydrating skincare
Arrive with clean, bare skin on the day of your appointment.
Numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimize discomfort. We use potent, high quality numbing agents that are only available by prescription.
During The Treatment

The appointment takes approximately one hour, depending on the area being treated. With numbing cream in place, most people describe the sensation as warm and prickling, not painful.
The handpiece moves across the treatment area in a methodical pattern. Skin will look red and feel warm immediately after, similar to a mild sunburn. This is normal and expected.
After – What Recovery Actually Looks Like
What MENDs Look Like Up Close

This part surprises most first-timers, so it’s worth knowing in advance.
In the first day or two, tiny dark dots appear on the skin surface. These are called MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris). It sounds alarming, but it simply means the treated columns of skin are working their way out.
Never rub or exfoliate the MENDs. This period requires gentle skincare and deep hydration to nourish your healing skin. During your consultation, we will make the appropriate post-skin care recommendations.

By days two and three, the MENDs become more visible, and the skin feels rough, almost like sandpaper. This is the process working, not something going wrong.
By days three and four, the MENDS begin to shed naturally with gentle cleansing. Around day five to seven, the skin underneath is noticeably smoother, brighter, and more even.
Collagen rebuilding continues for weeks to months after that, so the improvement you see at day seven isn’t the final result.
How Much Does MOXI Laser Cost?
Pricing varies by provider, location, and the specific treatment area. So any number online should be taken as a general reference, not a quote.
Nationally, MOXI treatments typically range from approximately $600 to $800 per session. Series pricing is often available and brings the per-treatment cost down meaningfully.
Physician-led practices may price differently from practices without a physician on-site, and understanding what that oversight actually includes is worth factoring in to how you compare costs.
The most accurate pricing comes from a consultation. It also determines whether MOXI is actually the right treatment for your skin in the first place.
